Rod has over 30 years experience as an academic in the field of psychology and has worked in high performance sport in NZ since 2004.  He has attended Olympic and Paralympic Games as a psychologist for the last three cycles.  Outside of Para sport, he has worked in sports such as rowing, cycling, hockey netball and cricket. He specialises in supporting athletes, coaches and all individuals in high performance programmes to pursue the things they care about.  Rod has a particular interest in brain injury and its impact on not only the person with the brain injury, but also those around them.

Rod provides psychological services to athletes, coaches, support staff of PNZ programmes including information relevant to their athlete’s performance and well-being. He supports PNZ contracted coaches and support staff in their own development particularly when working with athletes with an acquired brain injury; and support with their personal well being. Rod’s role primarily supports the ‘Medal Winning Performances’ and ‘Leadership of Para Sport’ pillars of the PNZ Strategic Plan 2021 – 2032. This role is 0.4 FTE.
