Marguerite is a Classification and Para sport expert with 20 years’ experience working in the disability and Para sport sector. A health professional with an Occupational Therapy background, Marguerite brings specialist qualifications, knowledge and experience to her role at PNZ along with strong leadership and strategic skills, communication and personal skills. Marguerite’s previous positions have been in working in physical rehabilitation, specialist education, regional and national disability sport and international sport organisations.
As Classification Manager, Marguerite leads the New Zealand Para Sport Classification Strategy across the sector so that New Zealand Para sports can build the capacity to develop and implement code compliant classification activities within their sports to support their Para athletes achieve medal winning performances. Classification in its simplest form is allocating Para athletes to a competition class that allows them to compete against those with similar physical abilities. Implementation of the Para Sport Classification Strategy will work to uphold confidence in classification and ensure the impact of an athlete’s eligible impairment on sport performance is minimised. Marguerite’s work particularly supports the ‘Medal Winning Performances and ‘Leadership of Para Sport’ pillars of the PNZ Strategic Plan 2021 – 2032.
