Michael has been working in sport for the better part of 40 years and specifically high performance for just over half that time, having worked in three countries from club level through to International Sporting Organisations. He has been involved in the preparation of athletes, coaches and staff for 6 Olympic Games, 4 Commonwealth Games and multiple World Championships in a number of sports. Michael during this time has held the roles of Development Manager, Coach, Manager, Performance Director and Performance Team Leader for these sports and National Organisations. He would describe his main focus as working with and supporting people and teams of people who just want to be the best they can be and perform when it counts. Even though his work has not been directly focused on Para sports he has worked with Para athletes during his tenure.

Michael’s passion for sport has led to a long and successful career in Sports Management. He began as a Development Manager in his beloved Australian Rules Football and then progressed to the Performance Manager and finally Head Coach. Not long after that he had the opportunity to work within the Australian Institute of Sport system before finally beginning his career as a Performance Director in Australia for the Olympic Sports of Diving, Cycling and Triathlon. Post 2004 he moved to New Zealand to work as the Performance Director for Cycling NZ and then was fortunate enough to be offered a Senior Position with the International Cycling Union in Switzerland. Since that time he has been working with HPSNZ as a Performance Team Leader taking up opportunities that have been presented to him to work within a number of National Sporting Organisations. Michael’s role within PNZ is to work with and support athletes, coaches and staff to prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
