Double Paralympic bronze medalist William Stedman visited Sport Canterbury’s Active Kids Holiday Programmesat both Christchurch Boys High School and Rolleston on Wednesday 26 April.
Stedman brought his bronze medals, joined in on the morning athletics session, challenged the kids to a running race and talked about his career path into the world of Paralympics.
“Kids had the chance to ask William questions about his at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games,“ says Sport Canterbury Active Kids Manager Jules Wilke.
“William led the athletics “Run Jump Throw“ session and enjoyed meeting kids who, much like himself, started out with dreams of representing New Zealand.“
Stedman is known for his remarkably quick ascent to international competition. “William was inspired in 2012 watching the London Paralympic Games from a trackside seat as a 12-year-old fan from Cashmere – that’s where the dream began.“
He returned to Christchurch, made a commitment to training and, within four years, earned two Paralympic medals of his own.
Sport Canterbury’s Active Kids Holiday Programmes offer an action-packed, safe and affordable option for families across the Greater Christchurch and Canterbury region.
The Programmes feature opportunities to “have a go“ and try new activities in a fun, supportive environment. Programmes are specifically designed to cater for ages five to 13.
