Along with a new year comes the opportunity to make new commitments and set new goals. So if you are thinking about embarking on a new challenge for the new decade, did you know you could raise money for the New Zealand Paralympic Team at the same time?
Channel the Paralympic spirit; push yourself out of your comfort zone and become an inspiration for others… sign up for a half marathon, 1k swim, Iron Man, Coast to Coast (the opportunities around New Zealand are endless!) in 2020 and become a PNZ Community Fundraiser.
It is very simple, all you need to do is register, create a page for your challenge on www.givealittle.co.nz and link the Beneficiary Details to Paralympics New Zealand… it’s as easy as that.
You can then share this page with us and with all your networks via social media and email. We will support you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
We need to raise $700,000 to send our Paralympians to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in August and we need your help!
If you would like to raise funds for our Paralympians in this way, contact our Fundraising Coordinator Heidi Wilde [email protected] or 021 543 790.
Our community fundraisers
In November keen cyclist Andrew Murdoch, from the Bay of Plenty, embarked on the 2019 Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge. Andrew has always pushed himself to his limits doing the sports that he loves; however, this has resulted in a nasty run of injuries. He fractured his clavicle whilst mountain biking the Skyline in Rotorua and, in his latest injury, he ruptured his ACL and fractured his Tibia Plateau skiing in Queenstown.
Andrew talks about how, although frustrated by injury and unable to participate in the sports that he loves, he was extremely grateful for the treatment and care he received from ACC. Cycling became a huge part of his recovery and he decided to embark on this massive 160km cycle, in a time of sub 6 hours, to inspire others and make them aware of the benefits of sport for people with disabilities and for recovery from injury.
Andrew wanted to find a way to give something back to New Zealand, in return for the care he had received, and to encourage others to do the same. He wanted to show that you should never let injury or disability prevent you from challenging yourself.
Andrew raised an amazing total of $1,250 for Paralympics New Zealand. To his frustration he was forced to pull out of the race through injury with only 38.7kms to go, but he is extremely positive in his will to go on and continue his journey.
