Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) acknowledges and accepts the difficult decision that has been made about no longer having international spectators at the upcoming Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The Japanese Government and Games organisers have advised that international spectators can no longer attend and that this decision has been taken to further contribute to safe and secure Games for all participants and the Japanese public.
Fiona Allan (Chief Executive, PNZ) said: “It goes without saying that ideally it would be preferable to have international spectators at the Paralympic Games, allowing families, friends and fans to cheer on their Paralympians, however we must acknowledge that due to the global pandemic we are not living in an ideal world. As a result, we fully appreciate the difficult decisions that have needed to be made to ensure a safe and secure Games.“
“We know this decision to no longer have international spectators attend the Paralympic Games will leave many disappointed. With New Zealanders unable to travel to Japan, we will work even harder with our broadcaster partners TVNZ and Attitude Pictures, and across our digital channels to ensure as many Kiwis as possible can watch and support the New Zealand Paralympic Team.“
