Five-time Paralympian #148 Mike Johnson has been winning medals for New Zealand since the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games, and we can’t wait to see what he achieves in the upcoming World Cup in Changwon, South Korea.
Mike competes with an air rifle in both prone and standing events over 50m and 10m distances. He is the only New Zealander at the Changwon WSPS World Cup.

About the venue
The event marks the first multi-year hosting agreement signed for World Shooting Para Sport. This means the Changwon World Cup will be part of the competition season through to 2025.
The Changwon International Shooting Range is a legacy venue of the 2018 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships which saw more than one thousand athletes competing in 59 events.
South Korea is one of the most successful Shooting Para sport nations placing second in the all-time Paralympic Games medal standings with 57 podium finishes including 23 golds.
The country also hosted two WSPS World Championships in Seoul 2002 and Cheongju 2018.
How does classification work in Shooting Para sport?
Shooting Para sport is the sport of shooting for Para athletes who have a physical impairment
leading to reduced function in the lower and/or upper limbs.
Classification provides the structure for fair and equitable competition to ensure that winning is determined by skill, fitness, power, endurance, tactical ability and mental focus. Classification groups Para athletes into a sport class according to the degree of activity limitation resulting from their impairment. In Shooting Para sport, there are three different sport classes:
Sport class SH1 (pistol)
Para athletes with upper and/or lower limb impairment competing in pistol events are in the SH1 class.
Sport class SH1 (rifle)
This sport class is designated to Para athletes with lower limb impairment for competition in rifle events.
Sport class SH2 (rifle)
This sport class is for rifle events only, and is designated to Para athletes with upper limb impairment (which necessitates them to use a shooting stand to support the rifle), all or not in combination with lower limb impairment.
