Greg Warnecke, Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General
Role
As Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General, Greg is responsible for leading Paralympics New Zealand, working in conjunction with the Board, our key Partners, Stakeholders and the wider PNZ Team, to the achievement of the organisation’s strategic objectives and vision, that through Para sport, lives will be transformed.
Greg provides financial oversight and strategic planning, as well as keeping key stakeholders informed and involved in PNZ’s work. He supports the internal Paralympics New Zealand team to deliver on the wider organisational outcomes.
Key indicators for Greg include successful Paralympic Games representation, inspiring the next generation of New Zealand Paralympians, and embedding inclusion and opportunities for disabled people in the wider New Zealand community.
Experience
Roles in sport and events have been a key part of Greg’s career. These are complemented by a passion for disability sport, volunteering, and governance.
Early roles in professional basketball and University sport led to executive roles delivering large-scale global sport events. Greg was part of the team which delivered the XX Commonwealth Games, the World Masters Games 2017 in New Zealand, and World Championships in swimming and cricket.
Greg brings governance experience to PNZ thanks to board roles with Disability Sport and Recreation (Victoria, Australia), British Triathlon, the World Skateboarding Championships, and the IBSA World Blind Games.
He has coached Wheelchair basketball internationally and is also a member of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation Competition Commission.

Education
Greg has a Masters in Sport Business (Victoria University, Australia), and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement) specialising in Sports Management (University of Ballarat/Federation University, Australia).
Interests
When Greg is not at work, he enjoys sport at all levels, cycling, hiking in the great outdoors, travel and photography.
