When Jason first met with Parafed Waikato in 2012, Jason’s initial decision was to take up Para cycling. However, after trying other Para sports, he decided to pursue Shooting Para sport instead.
In September 2015, Jason burst onto the international scene winning bronze at only his second IPC Shooting World Cup event held in Sydney, Australia where he achieved an IPC minimum qualifying score earning New Zealand a Para athlete slot at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
Enjoying a year of impressive success, he was then selected to New Zealand Paralympic Team that went on to win stunning 21 medals across 12 individual medallists in 2016 (9 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze) at the Rio 2016 Paralympics Games. The Team finished first in the world per capita and 13th in the world overall (previous best: 16th). Jason made his Paralympic debut in the R5 Mixed 10 m Air Rifle Prone SH2 event finishing 17th in a hugely competitive field.
Jason has now retired from Shooting Para sport to focus on his career.
Jason officially received his ‘numbered’ Paralympic pin as part of The Celebration Project in Hamilton in June 2019.
