Christine (Chris) Arthur, an accomplished sports leader with extensive high-performance and governance experience, has been elected to the Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) Board.
Chris competed for New Zealand as a hockey player at the 1984 Los Angeles and 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and has served as coach for the New Zealand’s Women’s Junior hockey team.
Currently chair of Table Tennis New Zealand, Chris is a member of the Institute of Directors and is Head of the Performance Life Coaching Team at HPSNZ.
A masters hockey player, she is passionate about delivering sport for all, for life and is committed to giving back to the sporting community in recognition of the many opportunities her own sporting journey has provided.
Chris has an expertise in developing pathways that enable athletes to achieve standards required to excel in world-class competition, while also ensuring strong foundations are laid for long-term participation and success.
“I’m excited to join a passionate Board who understand sport’s power to transform individuals and communities,” Chris said: “I look forward to building strong partnerships, sharing ideas, and working with the many stakeholders who are invested in creating lasting impact for Para sport.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of the PNZ Board, Maria Clarke, and PNZ Board member Pam Elgar, have both been re-elected for a second term.
PNZ Chair Jana Rangooni said: “We are pleased that both Maria and Pam have been re-elected to the PNZ Board, and I have no doubt that Chris’ athlete focus, knowledge of the sporting sector and governance experience will also provide a valuable contribution to the PNZ Board.”
“As my term finishes in January, this will be my final Board appointment round. I would like to thank the PNZ Board Appointment Panel for the work they have done to ensure PNZ has a strong and experienced governance team and also thank our members for their support of the Panel and its recommendations.”
