When are the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games?

Los Angeles (LA), Unites States will be hosting its first-ever summer Paralympic Games in 2028. The LA28 Paralympic Games will kick off 15 August 2028, and close 27 August 2028.

Legacy of the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games

Ahead of the Games, LA28 is investing $160 million in youth sports across Los Angeles, making sport more accessible for kids, particularly in under resourced communities.

Los Angeles expects to host more than 15,000 athletes in 2028 as it welcomes Paralympians and Olympians from around the world to compete on the biggest stage in sports.

What Para sports will be at the LA28 Paralympic Games?

A record 33 Para sports submitted applications to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to be considered for inclusion in LA28.

All International Federations with sports in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games programme put forward applications, together with Para arm wrestling, Para climbing, CP football, Para golf, Para karate, Para dance sport, Powerchair football, Para sailing, Para surfing, Wheelchair handball, and Beach Para volley.

The IPC announced the following 22 sports, with the possibility of Para climbing and Para surfing being announced at a later date.

Where will the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games be held?

The LA28 Games will bring Los Angeles together to create an incredible experience for athletes, fans and everyone in the community, using Southern California’s existing world-class stadiums and venues. Sustainability and fiscal responsibility are core to the Games Plan. With infrastructure already in place, no new permanent venues are needed for the Games.

Some of the venues for the Paralympic Games include:

  • Downtown Sports Park: a range of Para sports including Para swimming, Para badminton, Para cycling – road, Wheelchair rugby, Boccia, Para athletics, and Para powerlifting.
  • Long Beach Sports Park: Para triathlon.
  • South Bay Sports Park: Para cycling – track, Wheelchair tennis, Blind football.
  • Valley Sports Park: Shooting Para sport, Para equestrian.
  • Lake Perris: Para canoe and Para rowing.
  • LA Stadium: Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
