Double finalist in NZ Sport & Recreation Awards

Double finalist in NZ Sport & Recreation Awards

Paralympics New Zealand is thrilled to be announced as a finalist in two categories at this year’s New Zealand Sport and Recreation Awards; Commercial Partnership and High Performance Campaign.

Fiona Allan, CEO Paralympics New Zealand was excited to receive the news – “being nominated for two awards is a fabulous acknowledgement of the critical role our partners have played in growing the awareness of Para sport in the community, and the success of the High Performance campaign of New Zealand’s most decorated Paralympian, Sophie Pascoe. This result is reflective of the outstanding performances the New Zealand Team delivered at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and our combined efforts to publicly challenge perceptions of disability. The way our partners ACC, Cadbury and Sanford Ltd interacted with our activity under the Spirit of Gold® Initiative and worked with us to develop their own campaigns and activations was really exciting and we are looking forward to doing far more in this space as we build towards Pyeongchang 2018 Paralympic Winter and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.“

Geoff Barry, award judge and General Manager of Community Sport at Sport NZ, said Paralympics New Zealand had submitted excellent nominations which reflected what had been a tremendously successful year for the organisation.

“Sophie continued to impress and inspire off the back of an excellent campaign, reinforcing her status as our greatest ever Paralympian, and the Spirit of Gold® Initiative helped build the profile of the Paralympic Games – and our New Zealand team – in the lead up to Rio. When you combine the commercial achievements of Paralympics New Zealand with the profile and success of our Paralympians, this can only help to attract more disabled New Zealanders to participate in sport.“

Paralympics New Zealand has been selected as a finalist in the Commercial Partnership category with partners ACC NZ, Cadbury and Sanford Ltd and in the High Performance Campaign category for Sophie Pascoe’s Rio 2016 campaign. Winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony on 29 May.
