Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) is pleased to announce the re-election of Paralympian #189 Carl Murphy PLY and the election of Paralympian #210 Lisa Adams to the PNZ Athletes’ Council for a four-year term.

Carl, who competed at the Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games in Para snowboard, is the current Chair of the PNZ Athletes’ Council. Lisa, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champion in the Women’s Shot Put F37, is also the reigning world champion in that event.

Carl and Lisa will join existing PNZ Athletes’ Council members – Paralympian #158 Adam Hall MNZM PLY, #195 Anna Grimaldi MNZM, and #211 Danielle Aitchison PLY – for the upcoming term.

Paralympians #225 Anna Taylor PLY and #233 Louise Duncan PLY have concluded their terms on the PNZ Athletes’ Council. PNZ would like to acknowledge and thank them for their valuable contributions.

Carl said, “I’m incredibly honoured to be re-elected to the PNZ Athletes’ Council for a second term. Being part of a council that has made real, meaningful progress for athletes has been a privilege, and I’m genuinely grateful for the opportunity to continue contributing to this work. Having the trust of my peers means a great deal to me, and it’s a responsibility I take very seriously. I’m committed to continuing to listen, speak up, and ensure athletes’ voices remain front and centre in the decisions that affect them.”

Lisa added, “I’m really excited to be elected to the PNZ Athletes’ Council and honoured that my peers have chosen me to represent them. I’m looking forward to working with everyone.”

PNZ CEO Greg Warnecke said, “We’re delighted that Carl has been re-elected to the PNZ Athletes’ Council and are pleased to welcome Lisa as a newly elected member. Carl’s experience and leadership, alongside Lisa’s insight and passion for Para athlete advocacy, will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen the Para athlete voice within PNZ.”

The PNZ Athletes’ Council was established in 2021 as a consultative committee to represent the Para athlete voice within PNZ. The Council provides governance and management advice on matters impacting Paralympians and Para athletes both in New Zealand and internationally.
