Bill Oughton #129

Bill Oughton, New Zealand Paralympian

A car accident 35 years ago left Bill a tetraplegic. Fast forward and Bill started Wheelchair rugby and became a member of the highly successful Wheel Blacks team. Bill won bronze and gold with the team over two Paralympic Games: Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. The team became Paralympic Champions in Athens 2004, winning gold after an epic final game against Canada.

Bill officially received his ‘numbered’ Paralympic pin at the ParaFed Canterbury Sports Awards in Christchurch in November 2021.

Bill passed away on 31 December 2022, survived by wife Michelle and twin sons Jack and Pete.
