Bio

After breaking his neck diving into a river on the Sunshine Coast in 2005, Gavin returned home to New Zealand for rehabilitation.

Two years on from his accident, Gavin got into playing wheelchair rugby and was selected for the New Zealand Wheel Blacks team in 2009. As a senior member of the team, Gavin has captained the side from 2013-2020 and continues to be one of the top players in the world for his point class (0.5).

2011 Asia-Oceania Qualifying tournament

He was part of the Wheel Blacks team that competed at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games – the team’s first Paralympics appearance since 2008.

When Gavin isn’t working full time in the health care profession, he is spending time with his fiancé and their two boarder terriers tripping around NZ in their camper van. He loves to fish and you can regularly find him surf casting off the beach in his hometown of Waikanae.
