International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Campaign #NotPlayingGames

August 14th is the launch of the IPC’s #NotPlayingGames campaign to showcase Paralympians as fierce competitors. If you would like, we kindly ask that you post the attached 4 images to your Instagram feed – you have an option for the second image to choose from.

Please post the following images in order on your Instagram feed and tag @paralympics and @ParalympicsNZ. If you have a link in bio, here is the accompanying article on our website: https://www.paralympic.org/not-playing-games

Please find below suggested text for the caption of the post as well as alt text for each image.

Alt text 3: White text on a red background that reads: Paralympians have often been described by media as ‘participants’ and not ‘competitors.’ At Paris 2024, it’s time we set the record straight. #NotPlayingGames

Temporary Meta verification for Athletes

Meta is offering a temporary Verification badge to appear on Facebook and Instagram handles for all athletes competing at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. See instructions below on how you can apply for yours:

  • Athletes must submit their verification requests by Sept 20th
  • Athletes NEED to add keyword ‘Paris2024athlete’ to their application within the “Audience” field for them to take advantage of this offer. If they forget to do add this keyword, their application will not be accepted.
  • Again, this offering is temporary, which means the blue badge on the account will be enabled once we process your in-app verification request and it will be removed by end of October (or potentially sometime after the month of October).
  • A reminder, blue badge verification is not guaranteed, e.g. if an athlete’s account is set to private, no profile pic or bio, etc., our teams will not be able to proceed.
  • Note: some athletes may be verified permanently on submission and others could receive a permanent blue badge should they become eligible after the games, due to more media coverage of their performance in the tournament.
  • Applications take up to 5 business days to be reviewed. After 5 business days, athletes should reach out to the NPC/IPC to help investigate why their application is pending / not approved.
  • Anyone that submits after the Sept 20th deadline will be rejected, unless they meet our notability requirements for permanent blue badge verification.
  • Athletes who miss the deadline, or when the temporary blue badge verification is removed, we strongly encourage them to purchase our Meta Verified subscription (available Globally) to continue to maintain the blue check and take advantage of the extra benefits this option provides (see more here).
  • Lastly, this offering is for athletes ONLY, and should not be shared or used by any other individuals/3rd parties. We have a thorough detection system in place to address any bad actors or non-athletes that would request access, so please make sure this is clear when informing all athletes.

INSTRUCTIONS:

In order for athletes to receive this temporary verification, they need to perform the following:

  • Go into Instagram settings and navigate to “Account type and tools” under “For Professionals”
  • Under tools, go to “Request Verification”
  • Proceed with application
  • Fill out the form with the required information
  • Name
  • Upload Document type (e.g. passport, ID, etc.)
  • In the “Audience” section, please write the following info in the text field: ‘Paris2024Athlete’

  • Provide as many links of articles they have been mentioned/written about in the press
  • Finally, hit submit
