Board Vacancy October 2025

Due to a Board Member reaching their maximum term on the Board, Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) is seeking applicants to fill an Appointed Board Member position, commencing 1 February 2026.
The PNZ Board Appointment Panel is interested in hearing from applicants with governance experience and a strong affinity to Para or disability sport. For this vacancy, the Panel is particularly interested in applicants with strengths in one or more of the following areas:
- Stakeholder engagement, especially within government/public sector;
- Revenue generation;
- Marketing/media;
- Te Ao Māori.
In addition, to maintain its commitment to having a minimum of 40% of each gender on the Board, a female Board member is preferred (but not essential) to fill this vacancy. Applicants with lived experience, or knowledge of people with a disability are particularly welcomed.
PNZ is the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and the sole governing body of Para sport in Aotearoa New Zealand, recognised by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). PNZ has the exclusive right to represent, develop, promote and protect the Paralympic Movement in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our primary role is to lead successful New Zealand teams to the Paralympic Games. We are also part of a worldwide social change movement, which promotes the power of sport to positively influence perceptions and outcomes for disabled people and to promote a more diverse and inclusive society.
Current organisational priorities and areas of focus include:
- Preparation for the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games;
- Updating our strategic direction;
- Ensuring a sustainable revenue model;
- Considering the synergies for possibly working together with the New Zealand Olympic Committee; and
- Considering ways to support the development of the Para athlete pathway (from participation to high performance), across more Para sports in Aotearoa New Zealand.
