Jacinta Richardson

Hey, my name is Jacinta. I play Wheelchair Rugby.

Growing up with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, I always loved sport and being part of a team, but I wasn’t sure what opportunities would be available to me as my condition progressed. Everything changed when I discovered wheelchair rugby. From my first training session, I was hooked by the speed, strategy and intensity of the game. What started as a way to stay active quickly turned into a passion, leading me through development programmes, national competitions and ultimately selection for the Wheel Blacks in 2024. Representing New Zealand has been an incredible highlight, and the sport has given me confidence, lifelong friendships and opportunities I never imagined possible.

• Outside of sport, I’m a Medical Laboratory Scientist.

• My favourite food is sushi. 

• My current favourite song is anything by Six60. 

• My favourite place in the world is Queenstown.
