Born in Howick in East Auckland, Ed made four Paralympic Games appearances from 1984-1994. He made his Paralympic debut at the Innsbruck 1984 Paralympic Winter Games, which was only the second time that a NZ Paralympic Team attended the Paralympic Winter Games. Ed, who was born with a right arm deficiency, competed in the LW6/8 class.
A consistent performer, Ed claimed five top ten finishes in his Paralympic Games career, highlighted by a fifth position in the Men’s Slalom LW6/8 at Albertville 1992.
In addition, Ed also competed at the 1986 and 1990 Disabled Ski World Championships – now known as the World Para Alpine Skiing Championships.
Ed, who lives today in Otago is still very active. In 2020 he participated along with more than 100 other cyclists to cover more than 1000km on his bike from East Cape Lighthouse to Cape Egmont Lighthouse.
