Para alpine skier Sue Gardiner made her Paralympic debut at the Nagano 1998 Paralympic Winter Games, alongside fellow Cantabrians Steven Bayley and Rachael Battersby. Sue competed in the visually impaired class in multiple events which included Women’s Slalom, Giant Slalom, Women’s Downhill and the Women’s Super- G. Her husband Dave was her guide on the slopes. The New Zealand Paralympic Team in Nagano was very successful and won a combined total of 6 medals. Sue works today as a vision rehabilitation specialist.
