Paralympic debutant Danielle Aitchison won a silver medal today in Tokyo in the Women’s 200m T36. This now takes the medal tally for the New Zealand Paralympic Team to 4 medals including 2 gold and 2 silver.
Aitchison went into the event qualifying second fastest in the heats yesterday and ranked number 1 in the world. She ran a strong race and was placed 3rd on the bend and powered down the straight to finish in a time of 29.88. Yiting Shi (China) won in a world record breaking time of 28.21. The bronze medal went to Nicole Nicoleitzik (Germany) in a time of 30.69 almost a second behind Aitchison.
