Anthea became a paraplegic after a horse accident in 2006. She says that horses have kept her positive, and that without the friendship, understanding and challenges they provide her life post accident would be very different.
Anthea then represented New Zealand at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. She, alongside team mate Paralympian #186 Rachel Hughes were the first Para equestrian athletes to compete for New Zealand in 8 years. It was an experience of a lifetime for her.
In 2014 Anthea was New Zealand’s first Para dressage rider at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games where she was ranked 13th in the world and was third in grade two. Anthea is still involved in Para sport today and is currently training a young horse to bring her back to the competition arena nationally. She is also a member of the ESNZ Para Equestrian committee since its inception in 2008, and judges able bodied Dressage in her spare time.
