Get involved with Paralympics New Zealand ‘your way’
See below for ideas about how to get involved ‘your way’. Whether you volunteer, shop online or become a community fundraiser, however you choose to provide support, you will be supporting the New Zealand Paralympic Team and helping PNZ to use the power of sport to positively influence community perceptions of disabled people and to promote a more diverse and inclusive society.
Become a Community Fundraiser
Along with a new year comes the opportunity to make new commitments and set new goals. So if you are thinking about embarking on a new challenge for the new decade, did you know you could raise money for the New Zealand Paralympic Team at the same time?
Channel the Paralympic spirit; push yourself out of your comfort zone and become an inspiration for others… sign up for a half marathon, 1k swim, Iron Man, Coast to Coast (the opportunities around New Zealand are endless!) and become a PNZ Community Fundraiser.
It is very simple, all you need to do is register, create a page for your challenge on www.givealittle.co.nz and link the Beneficiary Details to Paralympics New Zealand… it’s as easy as that.
You can then share this page with us and with all your networks via social media and email. We will support you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
If you would like to raise funds for our Paralympians in this way, contact us at [email protected].
Our Community Fundraisers
Hayden Preston, a student at Hobsonville Point School in Auckland, recently completed a school project that involved raising funds for Paralympics New Zealand. Hayden, together with a group of friends, raised just over $500 for PNZ. We were thrilled to be Hayden’s chosen charity!
As part of their study programme for PE and social sciences, Hayden’s class were looking into participation and inclusion of disabled and transgender athletes. Hayden set himself the goal of running 10km within a two week period. Hayden took the lead as the main organiser of the challenge and set up a Givealittlepage as the vehicle for raising funds for PNZ and rallied support from friends and family.
Thank you Hayden, and friends Finlay, Abby, Amber and Stef.
During the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, held between 24 August and 5 September 2021, we invited New Zealanders to host a ‘Paralympic Party’ in support of our team in Tokyo.
Paralympic Parties took many forms including dress-up events (of people and dogs!), quizzes, medal-making competitions and crafting potato Paralympians and Lego Paralympians! We were thrilled with the response and the creativity.
