Brent Gibson #60

Paralympian Brent Gibson in Seoul 1988 with his 3 medals

At the age of 9, Brent had a pool accident. He started Para sport and Para swimming as part of his rehab. He soon participated in regional, national and then international competitions.

Brent Gibson represented NZ at the Seoul 1988 Paralympic Games in Para swimming. The Seoul 1988 Paralympic Games were a huge success for him with 3 Paralympic medals: a gold in the 200m freestyle 3 and 2 bronze in the 50m freestyle 3 and the 100m individual medley 3.

In the summer 1989, Brent had the opportunity to train with the Olympic and Paralympic Team in the USA. He made his second Paralympic Games appearance at the Barcelona 1992 Paralympic Games, this time under the Star-Spangled Banner.

Brent also competed in ocean swimming races and triathlon team events where he obviously excelled in the swimming section. Brent stopped competitive Para swimming in 1995 and now lives in Melbourne and works as an accountant.
