Steven Bayley #115

Steve Bayley, New Zealand Paralympian

Steven had a car accident in 1994 which resulted in the amputation of his right leg below the knee. He skied in the highly competitive LW4 group, which is among the toughest within the world of Para alpine skiing. Making his Paralympic debut at the Nagano 1998 Paralympic Winter Games, Steven impressed by claiming a bronze medal in the Men’s Giant Slalom LW4 and bagging fourth spot in the Men’s Downhill LW4.

On his return to the Paralympic arena for Salt Lake City 2002, Steven enjoyed an outstanding performance to take gold in the Men’s Giant Slalom LW4 and a pair of bronze in both the Men’s Super-G LW4 and Men’s Downhill LW4.

Skiing remains Steven’s passion and he tries to get on the slopes as much as possible. He also enjoys mountain biking and road cycling. Steven currently works for his own garden maintenance company.
