Gillian Pollock #131

Gilllian Pollock, New Zealand Paralympian

Gillian Pollock made her Paralympic debut as part of the New Zealand Paralympic Team of 42 Kiwis competing at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. Gillian has a congenital abnormality affecting both her upper limbs.

She is a Para swimmer and placed fifth in the Women’s 100m Backstroke S8, while also competing in the Women’s 100m Breastroke SB8, 100m Butterfly S8, 400m Freestyle S8. But it was the Women’s 200m Medley SM8 where Gillian found success. In a competitive final round Gillian won silver with Australia’s bronze medallist Brooke Stockham following .06 of a second behind her.

Gillian is still recognised by her local swimming club the Greendale Swim Club as the most successful international swimmer they have to date. In 2020 Gillian still holds 10 national records in Para swimming in her class.

Gillian grew up in Napier and now lives in the USA.
