Jeff Muralt #104

Jeff Muralt was born in Ohio in the USA. At the age of 19 Jeff was involved in a fatal car crash and lost his legs. He spent several months in the hospital recuperating. Jeff was soon hired by a company making wheelchairs after he saw their ad in a magazine. The company introduced him to wheelchair racing and sponsored him supporting his journey to international competition.

Jeff made his Paralympic debut at the Barcelona 1992 Paralympic Games representing the USA. He competed in the 200m where he did not qualify to race in the finals and in the Marathon as well where he finished 29th.

Jeff decided then to move to New Zealand and represent his new country for his second Paralympic Games in 1996 in Atlanta. This time, Jeff competed in the middle-distance events: 400m, 800m, 1500m and 5000m. Jeff won the bronze medal in the Men’s 400m T53.

Jeff went back to live in the USA. He is now involved with Hopes Inc., a non-profit organisation that provides family friendly sporting and recreational opportunities for people with disabilities.
