Originally from Hamilton, Willie made his Paralympic debut at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games in Para athletics. He competed in the Shot put F56 and Discus F56 events. Willie (Ngāi Tahu) was part of a team of 36 Kiwi Paralympians who collectively won 10 medals in Athens 2004. Willie still holds a New Zealand record in the Men’s Shot Put F56 event with a throw of 9.86 metres set in April 2004 a few months before the Paralympic Games. Today, Willie works in the Kaingaroa forest, as a chainsaw operator.
