Terry Faleva’ai #143

Terry Faleva’ai, New Zealand Paralympian

Thrower Terry attended his first Paralympic Games in Athens 2004, with an eighth placing in shot put. Four years later, he went to compete at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. Throughout his sporting career he also competed in discus and javelin, but concentrated on shot put at international level.

Terry started Para sport thanks to his best friend Paralympian #97 Paul Leefe who encouraged him to come to games and athletics events. Terry quickly loved it and tried many different sports from Wheelchair racing and Wheelchair rugby, to Powerlifting. Eventually, Terry had to pick a sport to focus on, and it was shot put that took him the furthest.

His first international competition was the FESPIC Games in 1999 where he had the chance to meet with the King of Thailand, still a strong memory for him.

Terry is a great role model. He is coaching athletics and has been leading before and after school programmes for youth groups in Hamilton for over 28 years.
